- The XRP Ledger recorded more than 1.14 million Payment transactions on Sept. 27, according to XRPSCAN data, putting daily activity well above the network's recent average as total ledger activity remained elevated.
The XRP Ledger processed 1,143,754 Payment transactions on Sept. 27, according to XRPSCAN's payment-volume metrics. The daily figure was about 28.9% above the 30-day average of roughly 887,600 payments, based on the same network data. The reading adds to a period of elevated Payment activity across the XRP Ledger during September.
The broader network also recorded approximately 2.7 million total transactions, while the number of active accounts stood near 17,800. Reported payment volume was approaching $400 million.
The figures measure different parts of the network. Payment transactions represent a specific transaction type on the XRP Ledger, while total transactions also include other operations.
What XRP Ledger Payment Activity Shows
A payment transaction on the XRP Ledger can represent more than a simple transfer of XRP between two wallets. According to the XRP Ledger's official documentation, the Payment transaction type can transfer XRP, move issued tokens, and execute cross-currency transactions. Payments can also use paths involving order books and automated market makers.
That means a rising Payment count does not, by itself, indicate that an equal number of individual users were sending XRP. A direct XRP payment transfers XRP from one account to another in a single transaction, while cross-currency payments can involve multiple currencies and liquidity paths.
The network also supports token transactions through the same Payment framework. The official XRPL documentation notes that direct XRP payments are typically confirmed within seconds once processed through the ledger's consensus system.
Consequently, the 1.14 million Payment figure is best viewed as a measure of network transaction activity, rather than a direct measure of XRP purchases, investor demand, or the number of people using the blockchain.
The distinction is relevant when interpreting the nearly $400 million in reported payment activity. The figure represents value associated with the recorded payments; it does not establish how much of that amount was spent specifically in XRP or how much represented investment flows. The network's active-account count also cannot be treated as a precise user count because a single individual, company, or service can operate multiple XRP Ledger accounts.
The elevated activity comes as the XRP Ledger continues to develop its transaction capabilities. The network supports payments alongside escrow, payment channels and other transaction types, providing several mechanisms for moving or controlling value on the ledger.
Recent attention has also focused on upcoming protocol changes. The planned XRP Ledger Batch amendment was pushed back after validator support fell below the required threshold. That upgrade is separate from the September payment figures and should not be treated as a cause of the recent increase.
Higher Network Activity Does Not Automatically Mean Higher XRP Demand
The increase in Payment transactions has occurred alongside volatility in XRP's market price during September. XRP moved from around $1.28 earlier in the month to above $1.60 before later trading closer to $1.49, according to the market data surrounding the latest network activity.
The combination of stronger ledger activity and a lower token price illustrates why on-chain transaction counts and market prices should be analyzed separately. A higher number of payments can result from transfers involving exchanges, wallets, applications, token issuers, or automated services. The transaction count alone cannot identify which category is responsible for the increase.
The XRP Ledger's payment system is also capable of supporting transactions involving assets other than XRP. The network's documentation states that a Payment transaction can send tokens already held by an account, create or redeem tokens, or facilitate cross-currency transfers.
For that reason, the latest activity is evidence of greater ledger usage, but it is not sufficient evidence of a corresponding increase in underlying demand for XRP itself. The more important measure will be whether the elevated Payment count continues. A single day above one million transactions shows that activity was substantially higher than the 30-day baseline, but a longer series would be needed to establish a sustained trend.
The Sept. 27 reading of 1,143,754 payments versus the roughly 887,600 30-day average is therefore the clearest takeaway from the latest data. Further increases in daily payments, active accounts, and transaction volumes would provide additional evidence that the elevated activity is persisting. A decline back toward the recent average would indicate that the Sept. 27 spike was less persistent.
For now, the XRP Ledger is showing a period of higher payment activity, while the available data do not establish exactly what is driving the increase.
