Wall Street is starting the week with three major forces competing for attention: elevated oil prices, Treasury yields above 5%, and continued AI spending. US stock futures were slightly lower Monday after the major indexes closed at record highs Friday, while investors digest the weak jobs report and wait for the Federal Reserve's September meeting minutes on Wednesday.
Here are the stocks I would put at the top of the Wealthier Today watchlist today.
1. PTC (NASDAQ: PTC) — Biggest M&A Story
Catalyst: Schneider Electric $22.6 billion takeover
PTC is the clearest individual stock story today. Schneider Electric agreed to acquire the industrial-software company for $205 per share in cash, valuing PTC's equity at about $22.6 billion and representing a 42.3% premium to its previous closing price. The transaction is expected to close by Q3 2027, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.
PTC's stock surged roughly 35% in premarket trading, while Schneider shares fell sharply in Europe as investors questioned the size and financing of the acquisition.
Wealthier Today angle: This is more than a software acquisition. Schneider is positioning PTC's industrial design and engineering software alongside its push into AI and data-center infrastructure.
2. Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) — AI Trade Back at Records
Catalyst: Foxconn's 47% revenue growth
Nvidia remains one of the most important stocks to watch as evidence of AI infrastructure demand continues to build. Foxconn reported third-quarter revenue of NT$3.03 trillion, up 47% year over year, beating market expectations. The Taiwanese electronics manufacturer is Nvidia's largest server maker, and the growth was driven by strong demand for AI-related products.
Nvidia shares were up about 0.9% in premarket trading at $236.02 after reaching a new intraday record of $235.74 on Friday, according to Barron's. The important question for investors is whether the latest server demand provides another fundamental reason for Nvidia's enormous valuation to keep expanding.
3. Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) — Terafab Competition Intensifies
Catalyst: TSMC discussions with Musk's Terafab
Intel shares were down roughly 4% in premarket trading after Elon Musk confirmed that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (NYSE: TSM) is in discussions about participating in the Terafab chip project.
Intel had previously joined Musk's Texas semiconductor initiative as a key manufacturing partner. The potential involvement of TSMC introduces another major chipmaker into a project that could become strategically important for AI and advanced semiconductor production.
Watch: Intel's reaction today could offer an early indication of how investors view the possibility of TSMC becoming more involved in Terafab.
4. Vistra (NYSE: VST) — Nuclear Power Gets a Fresh Catalyst
Catalyst: Potential $4.2 billion federal loan
Vistra is another stock attracting attention before the opening bell. Reuters reported that the US government plans to lend the company approximately $4.2 billion to increase nuclear power generation. The proposed financing would support upgrades at three nuclear facilities in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Vistra shares were reported up more than 6% in premarket trading following the news.
The broader investment theme is significant: AI data centers require enormous amounts of electricity, increasing investor interest in nuclear and other reliable power sources.
5. Nu Holdings (NYSE: NU) — Brazil Election Rally
Catalyst: Brazilian election results
Nu Holdings is another stock to watch after Brazil's first-round presidential election results triggered expectations of a broader market rally. Nu shares jumped about 10% in premarket trading, according to MarketWatch, while other Brazilian financial stocks also moved higher.
The move illustrates how political developments in Latin America can quickly affect US-listed companies with significant regional exposure.
6. Nike (NYSE: NKE) — Turnaround Still Under Pressure
Nike remains a key consumer-stock story after its latest earnings report showed another revenue decline. The athleticwear company reported fiscal first-quarter revenue of $11.21 billion, down 4% year over year.
Adjusted earnings came in above expectations, but the revenue performance disappointed investors and shares fell 3.6% in the following regular session. Nike's turnaround remains one of the more important consumer-stock stories heading into the holiday period.
7. Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) — Earnings Week Begins
Delta is particularly relevant today because it is scheduled to report third-quarter earnings later this week. The company is expected to provide investors with an update on demand, international travel, and the impact of sharply higher fuel prices. Delta is scheduled to report Thursday, Oct. 8, according to the current earnings calendar.
With Brent crude recently above $100 and WTI near $90, fuel costs are an increasingly important variable for airline margins.
8. PepsiCo (NASDAQ: PEP) — Earnings Ahead
PepsiCo is another major consumer name entering a potentially important earnings week. The company is scheduled to report Thursday before the market opens. Analyst expectations and recent rating changes have put additional attention on the company's upcoming results, particularly around demand and margins.
The Bigger Market Picture
The broader market setup is unusually concentrated around rates, oil and AI. The 10-year US Treasury yield opened Monday around 5.28%, while Brent crude remained near $100 and WTI traded around $90. Higher yields can pressure expensive growth stocks, while elevated energy prices can add to inflation concerns.
At the same time, the AI investment cycle continues to produce fresh corporate catalysts. Nvidia's strength, Foxconn's revenue growth, PTC's takeover, and the ongoing semiconductor competition all point to continued capital spending around AI infrastructure.
