Starbucks to Close 250 Stores Across North America This Week

/2 min read
  • Starbucks is closing about 250 coffeehouses as the company reviews locations based on customer experience and financial performance.

Starbucks Corp. (NASDAQ: SBUX) will close approximately 250 coffeehouses across North America this week, Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams said Thursday, according to Fox Business. The closures represent about 1% of Starbucks' more than 18,000 North American coffeehouses.

The company said it reviewed its North American store portfolio and identified locations where it does not believe it can consistently deliver the customer and employee experience it expects or where there is no clear path to acceptable financial performance.

“Closing any coffeehouse is a difficult decision,” Grams said in a letter to Starbucks employees.

Starbucks Continues Store Portfolio Restructuring

The closures are part of Starbucks' ongoing review of its coffeehouse portfolio. Starbucks previously disclosed store closures as part of its restructuring efforts. Through the first three quarters of fiscal 2026, the company had closed 247 stores under its fiscal 2025 restructuring plans, according to its latest quarterly filing.

The company had 18,371 locations across North America as of June 28, including company-operated and licensed stores.

Starbucks has been working to reshape its store network while focusing on locations that meet its financial and operating targets.
