- The Sept. 30 Powerball drawing produced one $1 million Match 5 winner in Texas, while the jackpot rolled to an estimated $440 million for Saturday.
The Powerball jackpot remains unclaimed after Wednesday night's drawing, with no ticket matching all five white balls and the red Powerball. The winning numbers were 4, 6, 23, 33 and 44, with 13 as the Powerball, while the Power Play multiplier was 4X.
The drawing had been advertised at roughly $409 million before the numbers were drawn. With no jackpot winner, the prize now increases to an estimated $440 million for the next drawing on Saturday, Oct. 3, with a cash option of about $183.1 million, before taxes, according to the official Powerball results.
The result extends a run of drawings without a grand-prize winner that has pushed the jackpot higher since the previous jackpot hit.
Powerball Winning Numbers and Prize Winners
The Sept. 30 combination was:
No ticket matched all six numbers. However, one ticket sold in Texas matched all five white balls to win the standard $1 million Match 5 prize. The ticket did not include the Power Play option, which would have increased that prize to $2 million.
Texas Lottery records show the $1 million ticket was sold in Houston at ONCAR INVESTMENT INC. The same drawing produced additional winners at lower prize levels throughout the state.
The latest result follows Monday's Powerball drawing, when the winning numbers were 17, 21, 29, 42 and 49, with 7 as the Powerball. No jackpot ticket was sold in that drawing either, allowing the advertised prize to climb for Wednesday.
The previous Powerball jackpot rollover had already pushed the prize above the $400 million threshold before Wednesday's draw. Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET. Players choose five numbers from 1 through 69 and one red Powerball from 1 through 26. A standard play costs $2.
$440 Million Powerball Jackpot Is Next
The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, with an estimated annuitized jackpot of $440 million and a cash value of $183.1 million. Both figures are before federal and applicable jurisdictional taxes.
The difference between those two figures reflects the two payout choices available to a jackpot winner. Powerball says winners can select an annuity consisting of 30 graduated payments over 29 years or take the one-time cash option. The annual annuity payments increase by 5% each year.
The size of the advertised jackpot is also influenced by interest rates because those rates affect the cost of funding the future annuity payments. Powerball notes that ticket sales and the annuity factor are among the variables used to determine the advertised grand prize.
The odds remain unchanged as the jackpot grows. Powerball's official prize information puts the odds of matching all five white balls and the Powerball at approximately 1 in 292.2 million, while the overall odds of winning any prize are about 1 in 24.9.
For players checking tickets from the Sept. 30 drawing, the official lottery results remain the appropriate reference because winning tickets must be validated according to the rules of the jurisdiction where they were purchased.
The next drawing gives Powerball players another opportunity to match the six-number combination and claim the growing grand prize.
