- The New York-based cookie chain has shut its three Connecticut locations, removing them from its website as the company continues operating in several other states.
Chip City Cookies has closed all three of its Connecticut stores, ending the New York-based cookie chain’s presence in the state less than three years after its first Connecticut opening. The closures affected locations in Darien, Fairfield and West Hartford. All three have been removed from Chip City’s website and are listed as permanently closed on Google, according to reporting from the Hartford Courant.
The company did not provide an explanation for the closures. Chip City also did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the shutdowns.
Chip City Removes Connecticut Locations
The three shuttered stores were located at 112 Heights Road in Darien, 1125 Post Road in Fairfield, and 67 Memorial Road in West Hartford.
Chip City entered Connecticut in 2023, beginning with its Darien location before adding stores in Fairfield and West Hartford. The chain became known for large, soft-centered cookies and a rotating menu of flavors.
The company says its menu includes 186 flavors, which it rotates through weekly. Popular offerings have included cannoli, apple cider donut, and its brownie-cookie combination known as a brookie. Despite the Connecticut closures, Chip City continues to list locations in New York, New Jersey and Texas on its website.
Closures Extend Beyond Connecticut
Chip City has also recently reduced its footprint elsewhere. Its Virginia locations have disappeared from the company website, while local reporting has documented closures in the state. As of late September, the company was listed as operating 24 locations across New Jersey, New York and Texas, down from 39 locations across six states in June, according to archived materials cited by ARLnow.
The closures come as the broader specialty-cookie sector faces a period of slower expansion. TheStreet reported that Crumbl Cookies' store count fell 16% from 2024 to 2025, while sales across the broader cookie category remained relatively flat in the year through July 2026.
Chip City was founded in Queens in 2017 by childhood friends Teddy Gailas and Peter Phillips. The brand expanded rapidly through New York and neighboring states, building its identity around social media, oversized cookies, and frequently changing flavors.
The Connecticut closures do not indicate that Chip City has shut down nationwide. The company continues to list operating stores in three states, while the reasons for the Connecticut closures have not been publicly disclosed.
