Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei Made $18 Million in 2025 as IPO Nears
  • Dario Amodei earned $18 million as Anthropic CEO in 2025, putting him above the chief executives of Alphabet and Amazon but below several of the highest-paid technology executives, according to the company’s IPO filing reviewed by Reuters.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei received $18 million in compensation in 2025, according to the company's IPO filing reviewed by Reuters. The disclosure provides an early look at executive compensation at the Claude developer as it prepares for a potential initial public offering.

Most of Amodei's 2025 compensation came from stock and other equity-related awards rather than his annual salary. Anthropic's filing shows that Amodei and his sister, company President Daniela Amodei, each received $1.4 million in annual salary after their pay was doubled in July 2025. Daniela Amodei received $16.4 million in total compensation last year.

The figures are significant because Anthropic is approaching the public markets at a valuation that could exceed $2 trillion. Reuters reported that the company's IPO prospectus points to a possible valuation above that level, although the final offering terms have not been established.

Anthropic Executive Pay Is Mostly Tied to Equity

The $18 million figure does not represent Amodei's annual cash salary. Like many founder-led technology companies, Anthropic relies heavily on equity awards to compensate senior executives.

The company's board also granted Amodei and his sister additional restricted stock units this year. Some of those awards are tied to their continued employment, while others depend on a successful IPO.

That structure makes the eventual public valuation particularly important to the Amodei family's potential wealth. Anthropic has not disclosed the founders' full ownership stakes in the company in the IPO filing reviewed by Reuters, meaning the value of their existing equity cannot yet be determined from the public disclosure.

Anthropic's compensation structure also illustrates the difference between salary and total executive compensation at large technology companies. Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai received $10.9 million in reported 2025 compensation, while Amazon CEO Andy Jassy received $2.1 million. Those figures can look substantially different when compensation is measured using changes in the value of unvested stock, however. Reuters reported that Pichai's "compensation actually paid" was $213.9 million and Jassy's was $13.2 million.

At the other end of the scale, Oracle co-CEO Clayton Magouyrk received $627.5 million in 2025, according to Reuters' review of executive filings. The comparison places Amodei's $18 million package well below the largest technology-company paydays despite the enormous valuation being discussed for Anthropic.

The broader executive-pay market has also moved higher. Average annual compensation for S&P 500 CEOs increased 21% to $22.8 million in 2025, according to data cited by Reuters from the AFL-CIO. Amodei's total compensation was therefore below that average despite Anthropic's potential multitrillion-dollar valuation.

Anthropic's CFO Krishna Rao received $720,250 in 2025. He was also granted options to purchase 1.4 million shares when he joined the company in 2024 and exercised options worth $385,285 during 2025.

Anthropic IPO Could Reprice Founder Wealth

The compensation disclosure arrives as investors focus increasingly on the economics behind the potential Anthropic IPO. Anthropic's rapid growth has been accompanied by enormous infrastructure costs. The company's IPO prospectus showed $4.59 billion in 2025 revenue, an $8.06 billion operating loss and about $7.33 billion in computing and infrastructure spending. It also outlined approximately $518 billion in future cloud, computing and infrastructure obligations.

Those figures give investors a different way to view the company's prospective valuation. The Anthropic IPO financial disclosures show that revenue has expanded rapidly, but so have the costs required to train and operate increasingly capable AI systems.

The company's potential public-market valuation also comes as Anthropic continues securing enormous amounts of computing capacity. Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO) has been linked to a proposed $42 billion financing arrangement that would help Anthropic finance AI chips and infrastructure. The financing would add another layer to the capital requirements already outlined in the company's IPO documents.

Anthropic has also disclosed significant risks associated with developing frontier AI. Its prospectus devotes roughly 80 pages of its 261-page main body to risk factors, including warnings that advanced models could potentially resist shutdown, conceal information, or exhibit behavior resembling blackmail.

The company has positioned those disclosures alongside its emphasis on AI safety. The IPO filing says Anthropic believes the market will reward reliable, trustworthy, and secure AI systems, while acknowledging that safety work competes for resources with computing capacity and AI talent.

The Amodei siblings and Anthropic's other co-founders have also pledged to dedicate 80% of their personal Anthropic equity to charitable causes, according to the IPO filing. The commitment could become financially significant if the company ultimately reaches or exceeds the reported multitrillion-dollar valuation.

For investors watching the Anthropic valuation, however, the executive compensation figures are only one part of the IPO picture. The more important questions will be whether Anthropic can sustain its rapid revenue growth, manage its infrastructure commitments and convert demand for Claude into a financially durable business.

The final IPO valuation, offering size and timing have not yet been established. But the $18 million paid to Amodei in 2025 offers an early look at how Anthropic is structuring executive compensation before public investors gain access to the company.

Chart/image concept: A clean executive-compensation comparison showing Dario Amodei at $18 million against Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, and the highest-paid technology executives, alongside Anthropic's potential $2 trillion IPO valuation.
