- Meta Platforms added about $192 billion in market value as its new Muse AI assistant climbed the app charts and raised expectations for consumer AI monetization.
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) shares jumped 11.43% to $741.25 on Monday, adding roughly $192 billion to the company's market capitalization, as investors responded to the early adoption of its new Muse personal AI agent.
The rally also boosted Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's estimated wealth. Forbes reported that Zuckerberg's net worth rose by about $25 billion during Monday's surge, reaching an estimated $253.6 billion.
The market's reaction reflects growing investor attention on whether Meta's heavy AI spending can translate into products that attract large numbers of users and eventually generate additional revenue.
Why is Meta stock rising?
Muse has quickly become the central focus for investors following Meta's AI strategy. According to Sensor Tower data cited by Yahoo Finance, Muse generated 2.8 million downloads across the US and Canada during its first 12 days. Yahoo Finance also reported that Muse exceeded ChatGPT's early download pace, with ChatGPT recording 1.3 million downloads during its first 12 days compared with 1.8 million for Muse based on the figures cited in the report.
Muse also reached the top position on Apple's US App Store, adding to investor interest in Meta's push to build consumer-facing AI products. Reuters reported that the launch has helped reignite enthusiasm around Meta's AI strategy and contributed to the Nasdaq reaching a record high.
Meta has positioned Muse as a personal AI agent capable of handling tasks for users rather than simply responding to conventional chatbot prompts. The service can assist with activities such as booking travel, sending emails, and making purchases.
Can Muse become a new source of revenue for Meta?
That remains an open question, but analysts are increasingly focused on the commercial possibilities. Evercore ISI analyst Mark Mahaney said Muse represents a potentially important product development for Meta, arguing that strong consumer adoption could create additional opportunities for advertising, subscriptions and transaction-related revenue. Those are analyst expectations rather than realized revenue from the product.
Meta's AI strategy has required significant investment. Yahoo Finance cited Mahaney as estimating that the company's annualized AI-related capital and operating expenses exceed $200 billion, while Meta continues building the computing infrastructure needed to support its AI products.
The early Muse numbers therefore give investors a more visible metric for judging whether that spending is translating into consumer adoption.
Meta's AI bet is also lifting chip stocks
The Muse rally has extended beyond Meta. Shares of major semiconductor companies jumped alongside Meta on Monday as investors focused on the computing requirements associated with wider adoption of AI agents. Barron's reported that Intel, Arm, AMD, Qualcomm and Nvidia were among the chipmakers benefiting from renewed enthusiasm around AI demand.
Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) also surpassed a $1 trillion market capitalization during Monday's trading session after its shares rallied, while Intel and Arm posted double-digit gains.
The broader market response reflects the possibility that consumer AI agents could require substantial additional computing capacity if adoption expands. UBS strategists cited by Barron's said Muse's popularity could benefit the wider AI supply chain.
